Volleyball-Serve Receive
The volleyball team is now practicing serve receive for upcoming games. Serve receive is basically a player who serves the volleyball and the player receiving the volleyball will bump it up to the setter. Demonstrated in the picture, the player receiving the serve must bring out his or her arms away from the body. The player should have a smooth platform on their arms for an easy pass to the setter. In receiving the volleyball, the player must also get low in order to bump the volleyball high enough so the setter can get under it and set a player up for a good hit.
Volleyball-Spot serving
On the volleyball agenda for the preparation of future games, spot serving was another thing we learned at practice. Spot serving is very difficult when you get up to the line and serve. When you spot serve, you want your body facing the direction you want the volleyball to go to. The server must square up in order to hit the volleyball in the direction you want it to go. Spot serving consists of the server to find a place where there is an open gap on the other teams side of the court. Once you have found a gap, square up, face where the gap is, then you just toss the volleyball in the air 2-3 feet, and hit it. I learned also that it's better to get a little running start to gain the momentum to hit the volleyball even harder, making it tough for the other team to serve receive.
Track and Field-sprinting
For track, we practiced taking a large step when you sprint off. When you're getting ready to jump off your power foot to start sprinting, you have to take a giant step with your other foot in order to thrust yourself even farther. Once you do that, you're a head of the game. This method gives you more momentum and it gives you more power allowing you to finish at the top if the leader board.
Track and Field-driving knees up
I learned at track this week is that when sprinting, you must drive your knees up in order to enhance you power. From start to finish this is essential if you want to win. Form is also important. You swing your arms like so in the picture back and forth. Pick those knees up and have good form then you will be sure to be finishing first or close to first.
